Rice Owl Mentors Eating Out
Romeo Quarterly Luncheon Friday April 15, 2016
Speaker –  Dr. David W. Leebron, President of Rice University

This is President David Leebron’s fourth address to ROMEO. In 2011 he spoke to us about his charge to Rice’s 100th matriculating class of 2015, emphasizing  some of the values of Rice which are meaningful to us all:

“R: Responsibility – Take responsibility. Take responsibility for making things better, for making a contribution.

I: Integrity –  At the heart of Rice’s honor is our honor both as a community and as individuals.

C: Community – Community has many different aspects, but most important is the way we support and treat each other.

E: Excellence – Excellence requires doing absolutely the best you can, and then figuring out how to do better.”

with his wry sense of humor, he then added:

“In case you found this boring, just be glad you didn’t go to V-A-N-D-E-R-B-I-L-T.”

AL Woelfel

To my ROMEO Brothers and Sisters,

I responded to a voice message from Maxine Woelfel, Al’s wife, on Wednesday and she told me Al had died onTuesday July 29, at 3:10 AM after a short illness. I assured her that she and the family had the loving and prayerful support of all of Al’s ROMEO friends.

Al called me the day before our last luncheon on July 18 and said he was not able to be our cashier for the meeting. He had been cashier for all the 12 years I have been coordinator and for many years prior to my term. I can remember only one other time he did not serve because he had been called to Louisiana to inspect the blowout preventers from the BP blowout and oil spill.

There will be Family Visitation at noon and a Memorial Service on Saturday August 2 at 1:00 PM at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 5315 Main Street, Houston.

May Al rest in peace with his loving Lord and God. Amen

Woods Martin
Coordinator
