Rice Owl Mentors Eating Out
Romeo Quarterly Luncheon Friday April 15, 2016
Speaker – Dr. David W. Leebron, President of Rice University
This is President David Leebron’s fourth address to ROMEO. In 2011 he spoke to us about his charge to Rice’s 100th matriculating class of 2015, emphasizing some of the values of Rice which are meaningful to us all:
“R: Responsibility – Take responsibility. Take responsibility for making things better, for making a contribution.
I: Integrity – At the heart of Rice’s honor is our honor both as a community and as individuals.
C: Community – Community has many different aspects, but most important is the way we support and treat each other.
E: Excellence – Excellence requires doing absolutely the best you can, and then figuring out how to do better.”
— with his wry sense of humor, he then added:
“In case you found this boring, just be glad you didn’t go to V-A-N-D-E-R-B-I-L-T.”
